Episode 71 of Upon Further Review!

We’re back with a look at lost celebrities, found fantasy, and fan films in Episode 71 of Upon Further Review!  In this show we thank our loyal listeners before diving right into the heart of the show: first we discuss the life and times of the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson; second we look at David Anthony Durham’s foray into epic fantasy, Acacia; and finally, we return to Middle Earth with our review of the fan film The Hunt for Gollum.  As always, we appreciate your continued dedication to the show–and as always, we ask that you spread the word about the show to others!  (As usual, podsafe intro music is provided by Sharif (“You’re My Girl”), outro by David Henderson (“We Gotta Go”).)

Reviewed in this show:

  1. TwelveMile:

You mentioned another Lord of the Rings fan film called “The Rangers.” I can’t find anything about it online. Could you have meant “Born of Hope” (www.bornofhope.com), which comes out later this year?

    Thanks!

  2. admin:

You’re absolutely right, TwelveMile…our mistake. (Though if anyone wants to do a film called “The Rangers,” that would be cool too.) ;) Thanks for the correction!

Big fan of Michael. Sure, he had his troubles and he made some bad decisions.
I just hope he can get the peace in death that he didn’t get in life.
Because of his impact on music, dance, popular culture, MTV and tabloid media, I can’t give him lower then an 8.
The weirdness and the child over the banister pulls him down a half point. His stubbornness, in allowing himself to be alone with non-related children, brings him down another half point.
So a 9 seems fair for him.
But this is an “emotional” time. It might be good to re-examine him in a couple of years.

Well, his talent is undeniable, DI, and we certainly join you in hoping he can find some peace now. Some recent developments suggest that there may be more to his death than originally met the eye, but we’ll have to wait to see about that. Thanks as always for the comment!
